Q1: Does this work with any combiner box?

No. The RSI is specifically engineered to work with the OutBack FLEXware ICS Plus Combiner Box (FWPV6-FH600-SDA). It sends a 24V signal to the specific contactors/relay-trip breakers inside that combiner to initiate shutdown.

Q2: Does it need a separate power supply?

Yes. The RSI requires a 24VDC Class 2 power supply to operate the LED lights and send the shutdown signal. In a complete ICS Plus kit, this is typically provided by the BKR-CTRL-DC module or a separate 24VDC adapter connected to the battery bank.

Q3: Where should I mount this?

Per NEC code, the Rapid Shutdown Initiator must be mounted in a “readily accessible” location outside the building, usually near the main utility meter or the inverter, so first responders can find it immediately.

Q4: What does the AFCI light mean?

If the “AFCI” LED is lit, the system has detected a dangerous electrical arc (sparking) in your DC wiring and has automatically shut down to prevent a fire. You must inspect the system and clear the fault before restarting.

Q5: Is this unit waterproof?

Yes, it is rated NEMA 3R, which means it is protected against falling rain, snow, and sleet. It is designed for outdoor installation.
