Midnite Solar, Classic 200, MPPT Charge Controller, 200VDC, 79A, 12-93V Battery, with BTS & LCD, Arc-fault Protection, CLASSIC 200
Arc-fault detection (not currently mentioned to UL 1699B) and Ground Fault Protection (GFP), which removes the need for a separate GFP breaker assembly, are two of the many features offered by MidNite Solar’s Classic charge controllers.
Solar arrays with operating voltages of up to 150, 200, or 250 VDC can be accommodated in three sizes. When the open-circuit voltage exceeds the operating voltage by a margin equal to or less than the battery bank voltage, the controller is covered by a function called HyperVOC. Only full power is shown in the table below. Allowable current varies with array voltage, so check the power curves in the user’s manual when sizing your PV array.
MPPT modes for sun, wind, or hydro with user-adjustable power curves and a learning mode for self-optimization are available on MidNite Solar’s Classic controllers. Without the use of a separate core, Classics can be stacked to create a single wide controller. For two-way communication, the Classic has Ethernet, USB, and RS-232 ports built-in. For data storage, each device has 32 MB of internal memory. Downloaded files can be used to update the firmware. For dusty or salt-air conditions, each device comes with a sealing kit, but sealing can reduce performance by up to 20%. For power-source voltages greater than 150 VDC, use MidNite 300 VDC breakers (see Electrical Distribution Parts). Make sure the breaker will fit in your DC power center, or use a separate MidNite Big Baby Box (see Electrical Distribution Parts) to house it. Breakers on the controller’s battery side just need to be rated for the maximum battery-charging voltage.
Two auxiliary relay outputs are available on the Classic controllers. AUX1 can be configured as a 12 VDC output (200 mA maximum) or a dry-contact relay (1 A max). AUX2 may be a 12 VDC output, a logic input (allowing the Classis to be controlled by a signal from a battery BMS, for example), or a PWM signal output for diversion load control or link to a MidNite Clipper.
The Classic 150, 200, and 250 are protected by a 5-year warranty and are specified to UL 1741 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 107.1:2001/09/01 Ed: 3 (R2006). Both units have dimensions of 15″H x 6″W x 4″ D and weigh 11.5 lbs. Built-in the United States of America.
The Classic SL is a solar-only variant of the Classic that is close to the traditional Classic. There are no wind or hydro modes available. The SL models have a simplified menu and Ground Fault Protection built-in, but no Arc Fault Detection or auxiliary outputs. For these models, BTS was sold separately.
The MidNite Graphics Display Panel (MNGP) is a remote LCD display that mimics the interface on the Classic charge controllers. It can also be used with the Lite versions of the Classic series.
The MidNite MNSICOMM is an adapter that allows the SMA Sunny Island to control the set points on a Classic control and will read the Classic data on SMA’s monitoring platform.
Features
- Flexible & Versatile – With models up to 120V battery bank, 12-72V battery charging is normal. MPPT modes include solar, wind, and hydro. Multiple Classic charge controllers can operate in parallel. There are two types of equalizers: manual and automatic. VOC boundaries are pushed further by hyperVOC.
- Powerful Communications -Ethernet, USB, and RS232 are all possibilities. It is possible to provide both remote and local displays. Data logging of 20 megabytes (380 days). The wizard guides you through the entire setup process: Wind turbine program selection, Wire sizing, Breaker sel…
